One electric candle with a dusk-to-dawn sensor, in a front-facing window. It lights itself at dark and turns off at dawn — so once it's in the window, it runs on its own.
Who's behind this
Lights On 4 Democracy is sponsored by Compassionate St. Augustine, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to inspire, influence and grow a culture of compassion through advocacy, awareness and action.
Compassionate St. Augustine is part of the Charter for Compassion — a worldwide network built on a single principle: treat others as one would like others to treat oneself. That's the same ground this movement stands on.
- First Compassionate City in Florida, and the 20th in the world (2013)
- St. Augustine and its sister city Avilés, Spain became the world's first Compassionate Sister Cities (2014)
- Part of a network of 50+ Compassionate Cities, Regions and Countries worldwide
Bring your street with you
One lit window is easy to miss. Three or four on the same block become a lit street — and that's what people photograph, talk about, and remember. Send this to three neighbors.
“Hey — I joined something called Lights On 4 Democracy. You put a little electric candle in your window each night as a nonpartisan stand for voting, a free press, and rule of law. Would you put one in yours? And take a minute to check your voter registration at vote.gov — November 3 comes fast. lightson4democracy.com”
